The cooperation between the Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) and the Ministerial Conference on Fisheries Cooperation Among African States Bordering the Atlantic (ATLAFCO) is being reinforced by the signing of a financing agreement of USD 20,000.
Solemnised by the Executive Secretary of ATLAFCO, Abdelouahed Benabbou and the Administrative and Financial Manager of FCWC, Mr. Joel Bio Bata who represented Mr. Seraphin Dedi, Secretary General of FCWC, who could not be there, this agreement fits into the funding of a study to operationalize the Convention on the minimum conditions of access to fishery resources of the FCWC region.
The signing of this agreement took place during the Coordination meeting between institutions and regional fisheries organisations operating in the ATLAFCO region, held on 3 May 2016 in Tangier, on “Institutional cooperation within the ATLAFCO region, perspectives for integrated regional governance for fisheries and aquaculture.” The official signing ceremony of the Convention was chaired by Dr. Anvra Jeanson Djobo, representing the Minister of Animal and Fishery Resources of Côte d’Ivoire, Acting Chairman of ATLAFCO.
This meeting is part of the implementation of a strategy for the operationalization of the provisions of the Memorandum of Understanding signed on 22 February 2015, in Agadir, by the following institutions and organisations: the Ministerial Conference on Fisheries Cooperation Among African States Bordering the Atlantic (ATLAFCO), the Regional Fisheries Committee for the Gulf of Guinea (COREP), the Sub-Regional Fisheries Commission (SRFC), the Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC), the Intergovernmental Organisation for Information and Cooperation on Fisheries Products Marketing in Africa (INFOPECHE) and the Network on Fishing Policies in West Africa (REPAO).
This dynamic aims to implement a common programme in order to make regional fisheries organisations’ interventions more efficient and effective, and broaden their scope of work as well as their actions, for a sustainable management of fishery resources within the area of competence of organisations and institutions which are parties to the MOU.
