Maritime Security

High levels of piracy, armed robbery, illegal bunkering, illicit drug, arms and human trafficking as well as illegal fishing contribute to the significant maritime security challenges of the Gulf of Guinea. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has responded by developing maritime domain initiatives to provide regional and coordinated oversight of the maritime sector. In line with the initiatives developed by the ECOWAS, the FCWC has been developing collaboration with maritime security structures improve Maritime Domain Awareness, enhance national and regional capacity.
