Staff of the FCWC’s Regional MCS Centre are participated in a three-day training session organized by the Gulf of Guinea Interregional Network (GoGIN II) project in partnership with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on the 2.0 version of the Yaoundé Architecture Regional Information System (YARIS) from 8 -10 July 2024 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
The training was organized to introduce and gather feedback on the new YARIS 2.0 interface and solicit recommendations for new features for the maritime domain awareness tool. The training was also used as an occasion to prepare for the upcoming Grand African Nemo Operation (GANO) 24 during which YARIS will be used.
Grand Africa NEMO (GANO) is an annual regional air/sea maritime exercise, co-organised by France and the Yaoundé Maritime Security Architecture, for the benefit of the entities of the Yaoundé Process and the African partners of the Gulf of Guinea, with the aim of contributing to the fight against maritime insecurity.
The activity lines up with multiple intervention areas of the FCWC’s 2021-2030 Strategic Action Plan: to develop partnerships to support subregional cooperation and policies of the Member States; and sub-regional cooperation in the fight against IUU fishing and maritime safety.
