The Regional MCS Centre of Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) received an educational visit from trainees of the Regional Maritime University (RMU) participating in a European Union-funded training on maritime affairs and security.
The group of 18 students from Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, Nigeria and Togo are participating in the Maritime Affairs and Security training programme by the RMU & Support to West Africa Integrated Maritime Security (SWAIMS) Project.
They visited the centre to enhance their training as part of the Fisheries Sector Security and Governance module, to understand the importance of Regional Fisheries Bodies (RFB) in the fight against IUU fishing and other maritime crimes. The trainees were introduced to the regional MCS centre and given a live demonstration of the functionalities of its vessel monitoring system.
