The Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) is facilitating a working visit to Liberia for a team led by the FCWC Chairperson, Ghana’s Minster of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (MOFAD), Hon. Mrs. Mavis Hawa Koomson from 11th – 14th July 2023.
The working visit is a continuation of the Member State visits she made last year to Benin, Cote d’Ivoire, and Togo, within the mandate of the Chairperson to the Conference of Ministers of Fisheries Committee, to further promote regional fisheries activities in support of the FCWC’s 2023 theme for the year “Supporting effective fisheries management for a sustainable ocean economy.”
Hon. Min. Koomson met with her counterpart, Liberia’s Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), Hon. Emma Metieh Glassco, to discuss the progress on the burgeoning bilateral and regional fisheries cooperation.
Specific discussion points for the working visit include the hosting of the 15th Conference of Ministers of FCWC in Monrovia, Liberia; joint actions to be taken towards the implementation of a regional closed season, regional vessel monitoring, regional scientific research, and observer programs, and conducting joint patrols.
