Representatives of the Guinean fisheries administration authorities boarded and searched and eventually impounded three Chinese vessels accused of illegally fishing on Guinean waters, even though they only hold licences to fish prawns, official sources said here Monday.
According to the law on the subject, this offense involves “fishing profile change” and is liable to a fine of 700 million Guinean francs (about 70, 000 Euros).
The company that owns the three boats which were docked at the port of Conakry will therefore have to pay a cumulative fine of 2 billion Guinean francs and 100 million Guinean francs respectively, which together is about 210,000 Euros.
Guinea is one of the states still in the red zone because it still falls victim to such illegal practices.
