This document is the main volume of the FAO FishCode-STF/CECAF/FCWC Subregional Workshop on the Improvement of Fishery Information and Data Collection Systems (Vol. 2) in the West Central Gulf of Guinea Region held in Accra, Ghana, from 26 to 28 June 2007. Major topics were: a) existing fishery information and data collection systems in the region; b) issues related to fishery information and data collection with regard to both industrial fisheries and small-scale fisheries; c) the way to improve the quality of fishery information and data; d) national knowledge and experiences in designing and developing the fishery information and data collection systems among participating countries. The national inventories of fisheries data collection systems, prepared for the workshop are presented in a supplement to this report.
1. The Second Ministerial Conference of the Fishery Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) took place in Abidjan‐Côte d’Ivoire, on 19 December 2008, following the Meeting of the Advisory and Coordinating Committee (ACC) held on 17 and 18 December 2008. 2. The Minister of Animal Production and Fisheries Resources (MIPARH) of the Republic of Côte d’Ivoire and representatives of Ministers in charge of Fisheries of the Republic of Benin, the Republic of Ghana and the Republic of Togo attended the session. Due to technical problems, the delegates ofthe Republic of Liberia and the Federal Republic of Nigeria were unable to attend the meeting.
