Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) Secretariat and Technical Team members met the Liberia National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) to participate in the West Africa Task Force (WATF)’s National Working Group meeting at NaFAA’s Fisheries Management Center in Monrovia, Liberia from the 18th – 21st March 2019.
The meeting also brought together representatives from the Liberia Coast Guard (LCG), Liberia Immigration Service (LIS), Liberia Maritime Authority (LiMA), Liberia Port Authority, Liberia Ministry of Justice, Liberia National Police and NaFAA to discuss their fisheries and maritime related activities and all developments in the period since the last meeting took place.
The agencies present committed to broaden the developing interagency cooperation to involve all relevant agencies through operationalizing existing MOUs. One of the key outcomes of the meeting is the strong commitment of LiMA in reefers inspection calling into port by collaborating with fisheries inspectors. In addition, the represented agencies proposed their focal points to be added to WATF regional information-sharing platform, to improve existing communication, collaboration and cooperation.
