The Secretariat of the Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) received a maiden visit from the new Executive Director of Ghana’s Fisheries Commission (FC), Prof. Benjamin Campion, on 11 February 2024, at the Conference Room of the Regional MCS Centre.
During the incoming director’s courtesy call, he was introduced to the FCWC organisation, the FCWC Secretariat staff and activities, and a brief history of the strong collaboration between FCWC and Ghana’s Ministry was given. He was also briefed on the role of a Fisheries Director in the FCWC. All FCWC fisheries Directors in charge of fisheries and aquaculture are members of the Advisory and Coordinating Committee (ACC), the apex technical organ of the FCWC that reviews and approves annual workplans and budgets.
FCWC Secretary-General Dr. Gaston Djihinto welcomed Director Campion and expressed his desire to cooperate strongly to achieve the collective aims of the region. Director Campion shared that he was eager to collaborate with the FCWC through the Fisheries Commission’s activities to produce winning outcomes for Ghana and the FCWC Subregion.
Prior to his appointment, Director Campion served as a lecturer in the Department of Fisheries and Watershed Management at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology for approximately 20 years.
