The Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) at the 15th Ministerial Session of the FCWC Conference of Ministers welcomed a new Chairperson of the Conference of Ministers in the person of Liberia National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority’s Director-General, Emma Metieh Glassco, in a short ceremony on 13 December 2024, at the Ellen Johnson Sirleaf Ministerial Complex in Monrovia, Liberia.
Madam Glassco took over the role from Hon. Min. Mavis Hawa Koomson, Ghana’s Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (MOFAD) who occupied the role since the 14th Session of the Conference of Ministers in January 2023.
In her speech at this 15th Ministerial Session, Hon. Director-General Glassco assured the meeting that Liberia will double its efforts and improve on existing gains of the FCWC. “My greatest vision for this sub-regional body is to foster and facilitate inter-regional trade among ourselves, particularly Liberia, which has an emerging fisheries sector with untapped opportunities both in capture fisheries and aquaculture development. My aim is to strengthen our bilateral cooperation through shared technical experiences and harmonized policies on our license regimes,” stated Director-General Glassco.
She received the Presidential pennant, The Chairperson chairs each meeting of the Conference of Ministers and exercises the functions conferred on him or her in the Convention or elsewhere in the FCWC Rules of Procedure.
