The Regional Monitoring Control and Surveillance Centre (RMCSC) of the Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) received a visit from 32 naval trainees from 17 countries under the SIREN training programme on October 24, 2024.
The trainees led by CECLANT’s SIREN Programme Director, Emmanuel Vignet, received valuable insights into the Centre’s operations and its pivotal role in MCS in regional fisheries to combat IUU fishing.
The visit follows the FCWC’s participation in the European Fisheries Control Agency’s (EFCA) SIREN training programme held onboard the French warship LHD Dixmude during the warship’s journey from Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, to Tema, Ghana, between October 20 and October 24, 2024. The FCWC RMCSC’s Abel Frimpong Armah participated in the program and delivered lectures on fishing species and provided mentoring to the trainees on fisheries-related issues.
The FCWC’s participation in the SIREN training programme demonstrates its commitment to fostering regional and international cooperation, enhancing capacity-building efforts, and strengthening the fight against IUU fishing in West Africa.
