The Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) has been invited to witness in the signing meeting of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for joint operations in the Zone F maritime domain on 25th July 2019 in Accra, Ghana.
The MoUs are being signed between the member countries as part of the implementation of the ECOWAS Integrated Maritime Strategy (EIMS) and the Yaoundé Agreements for Maritime Security and Safety in the Gulf of Guinea. The meeting will bring together Heads of Navies, Coast Guards and Gendarmerie of Zone F member states (Ghana, Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Burkina Faso), representatives from the ECOWAS Commission and other relevant agencies and stakeholders.
Speaking ahead of the signing the ceremony, FCWC Secretary-General Seraphin Dedi said “I am honored to have been invited to witness this signing ceremony because this signing is a massive step toward the establishment of formal linkages between our member countries, the regional integration body ECOWAS and our maritime security agencies. Maritime security cannot be successfully addressed and overcome by any single nation, so I am pleased that this key agreement has been finalized so we can begin to organize and undertake joint patrols in the FCWC region.”
