The Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) and the Sub-Regional Fisheries Commission (SRFC) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) on 8 April 2022 in Tema, Ghana.
In the short ceremony at the FCWC Headquarters, the Director of Agriculture and Rural Development, Alain Sy TRAORE, with FCWC Secretary-General, Seraphin Dedi, and SRFC Permanent Secretary, Malal Sané, signed the MOU. In attendance at the ceremony were PESCAO/ECOWAS Technical Assistance Team Leader, Dr. Amadou Tall, Nigeria’s Director of Aquaculture, Ibrahim Abubakar, and a delegation from Cote d’Ivoire comprising representative of the Minister for Fisheries, Dr. [name], Director of Aquaculture, Ernest KONAN, and Director of Fisheries, Col. Fofana BINA.
The MOU establishes a framework for collaboration, partnership and cooperation to implement ECOWAS agricultural policy (ECOWAP); in particular the Sustainable Development Goals in the fisheries and aquaculture sector, and coordinated implementation of regional fisheries and aquaculture policies.
