The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has published 38 factsheets on fisheries in the FCWC region, making the up-to-date information accessible via the internet.
The achievement is one of the key outcomes of the Letter of Agreement (LOA) between the FCWC and the Fisheries and Resources Monitoring System (FIRMS) Secretariat. The factsheets contain 25 artisanal, and 13 semi-industrial and industrial fisheries data, enabling a dynamic update of FIRMS inventories with the statistics collected annually through the FCWC Regional Database (RDB).
This progress was made possible through the collaboration of fisheries statistics personnel in the Member States. It is envisaged that the openly accessible fisheries information will be regularly updated annually.
