In a short ceremony, and in keeping with the FCWC Theme of the Year 2022, the FCWC Secretariat handed over mobile devices donated under the West Africa Task Force to Côte d’Ivoire to improve their fisheries inspections.
The preconfigured Samsung Galaxy Tab Active 4 tablets were delivered to Cote d’Ivoire’s Head of MCS, Maxime Diomande, during a capacity building exchange visit to the FCWC Regional MCS Centre on the 4th February 2022.
“We are continuing to take action on our theme of the year 2022 Using innovative technology to increase oversight of safe, fair and legal fishing. These tools will increase oversight in Cote d’Ivoire’s fisheries, giving fisheries inspectors near-instant access to information that gives them the context to take necessary action during inspections.”Said Mr Séraphin DEDI, Secretary General of the FCWC.
The FCWC West Africa Task Force (WATF) was established in 2015 under the Fisheries Intelligence and MCS Support in West Africa project funded by Norad. It is facilitated by the FCWC Secretariat and supported by a Technical Team that includes Trygg Mat Tracking (TMT) and Stop Illegal Fishing (SIF).
