– Authorities at Osu in Accra are warning against the eating of fish washed at shore
– MCE of Korle Klottey says the fishes have strange colours and a sticky substance in them
– Samples have been taken by the FDA for investigation
The Korle Klottey Municipal Assembly (KoKMA) at Osu in the Greater Accra Region is sounding the alarm against the eating of fish washed at shore on Friday morning.
Swathes of dead fishes spread across the shores of the Korle Klottey Constituency on Friday morning. Fish experts with the Fisheries Commission have said in a statement to KoKMA that the development could be caused by bacteria.
“This continued the whole of yesterday. We realized this is very strange. By mid-morning, the colour of the fish started changing. When you cut them open, you find a substance – so sticky like glue. So far the police and FDA have taken samples for investigations,” the MCE of the area, Nii Adjei Tawiah told the Media.
Already, some fish mongers are selling the fishes at unreasonably low prices across the markets as sales soar.
“We therefore advise the public against consuming of such fish, which comes various fish sizes and of a cheap price at sale,” he added.
So far, these fishes are being buried as community leaders announce against the consumption and sale of these fishes.
