The Ivorian Minister of Animal and Fisheries Resources, Hon. Sidi Touré has announced that Cote d’Ivoire will henceforth hold a fishery closed season from 1 July to 1 August beginning in 2023.
The announcement was made during a working visit by Ghana’s Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, Hon. Mrs. Mavis Hawa Koomson, in Abidjan-Plateau on 3rd July 2022.
The closed season was one of the fisheries management measures discussed during the visit to deepen cooperation between Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana in fisheries. The Ivorian fisheries closed season is scheduled to happen simultaneously with Ghana’s to reduce the likelihood of fishers migrating to fish in the neighboring country during the period.
