Mr Samuel Quaatey, a proven fisheries management expert has been contracted by AU-IBAR to conduct an evaluation of the status of implementation and review of the regional plan of action for preventing, deterring and eliminating illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing adopted in 2009, by the FCWC member countries.

The Fisheries Committee for the West Central Gulf of Guinea (FCWC) was established in 2007. This to facilitate cooperation in fisheries management between the member countries: Liberia, Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Benin, and Nigeria. The countries have several shared fish stocks and identified a need for cooperation and shared management of these resources.
